You already designed the variant in Figma. MidaGX can read that frame and rebuild it directly on your live page as an A/B test variant, so you do not have to wait for a developer to build it first.
This article covers the import workflow. If your result comes back inaccurate or incomplete, the fix is almost always the structure of the frame itself — see How to optimize your Figma Frame for better results with MidaGX.
Before you start
The MidaGX Chrome extension, opened on the page you want to test.
To save the result as a test, open MidaGX from a campaign in your Mida dashboard. You can experiment with the Figma import without that, but the SAVE button needs a campaign to save into.
A Figma personal access token with read access to file content. MidaGX reads your frame through Figma's API, so it needs one.
The design you want to ship, as a frame in Figma (not a whole page or file).
Step 1: Connect your Figma account
In the MidaGX chat panel, find the toolbar along the bottom of the composer. The Figma icon sits there, just after the Select Element button.
The first time you click it, MidaGX asks for a personal access token. To create one, go to your Figma account settings and generate a token with read access to file content. Figma's own guide is here: Manage personal access tokens. Tokens start with figd_.
Paste it in and click Connect Figma. The token is stored locally in your browser only. You can remove it any time with Disconnect Figma in the same dialog.
Step 2: Copy your frame link in Figma
In Figma, select the frame you want to build, then right-click and choose Copy link to selection.
This matters. MidaGX needs a link that points at one specific frame, not at the file. A correct link looks like this and always ends with a node-id:
https://www.figma.com/design/AbC123.../My-File?node-id=161-378
If you copy the URL out of your browser address bar instead, you usually get the file link with no node-id, and MidaGX will reject it.
Step 3: Paste the link and set your options
Open MidaGX on the live page you want to change, click the Figma icon, and paste the link into Desktop frame link. A few options are worth knowing:
+ Add mobile frame — paste a second link to your mobile breakpoint frame so MidaGX builds both layouts. The two frames can come from different Figma files.
Include images — off by default. Turn it on to download the actual photos, logos, and icons from your Figma file. Layout still uses the frame preview either way.
Effort: Low, Medium, High — Medium is the default. Higher effort can improve quality on complex frames, but it takes longer to generate and raises the chance of a timeout.
Extra notes — optional, plain language. For example, only update the hero section.
Then click Apply frame. Generation runs against your real page and can take several minutes on a large frame. Keep the tab open while it works.
Step 4: Review what it built
When it finishes you get a Design applied card in the chat. If MidaGX made any changes, the card also shows a chip with the number of changes.
Check the result across desktop, tablet, and mobile using the viewport switcher in the top toolbar. Then refine anything that looks off:
Click ✨ Enhance on the card to have MidaGX compare its output against your Figma design again and fix mismatches automatically.
Or just describe what is wrong in the chat, the same way you would with any other MidaGX change.
If your design includes a form that did not exist on the page before, MidaGX will tell you it needs a submit handler. A new form will render, but it will not submit anywhere until you wire it up.
Step 5: Save and launch it as an A/B test
Click SAVE in the top right. MidaGX writes the variant back to your Mida campaign and confirms in the chat.
You are then returned to the Mida dashboard: if you opened MidaGX from the dashboard the tab closes on its own, otherwise you are redirected to the campaign's targeting page. Finish the setup there — targeting, conversion goal, traffic split — and publish. From that point it is a normal Mida experiment with normal Mida reporting.
Error messages and what they mean
"Link is missing a node-id" — you copied the file link. Go back to Figma, right-click the frame, and choose Copy link to selection.
"Could not find a file key in the link" — the URL is not a Figma file, design, or prototype link. Copy it again directly from a selected frame.
"Link must be a figma.com URL" — whatever was pasted is not a Figma address.
Figma returned HTTP 429 — Figma rate-limited the request. This is normally your Figma seat or file plan rather than a problem with MidaGX. MidaGX retries once on its own; if it still fails, wait a moment and click Apply frame again.
Timed out — usually a very large or deeply nested frame. Lower the Effort setting, or split the design into smaller frames and apply them one at a time.
If the result is not accurate enough
Output quality depends heavily on how the Figma frame is built. Clear layer names, Auto Layout, real text layers, and clean top-level sections make a large difference. The full checklist is in How to optimize your Figma Frame for better results with MidaGX.
Still stuck? Send us the frame link in the chat and we will take a look.
